VW to Phase Out Combustion Engines by 2026

Electric Revolution to Accelerate in 2024

Volkswagen has announced plans to phase out combustion engines from its product lineup by 2026. The German automaker's ambitious transition to electric vehicles will begin in earnest in 2024 with the launch of a small electric car.

Upcoming Electric Models

In addition to the small electric car, VW is developing a larger electric vehicle based on the STLA-Large platform. The new model will be unveiled in 2024 and will compete in the growing electric SUV segment.

While VW's focus will shift to electric vehicles, the company will continue to produce combustion-powered models in the coming years. One such model is the Tayron, which will replace the Tiguan Allspace in 2024.

VW to Go Electric-Only in Norway

VW has announced that it will only sell electric vehicles in Norway starting in 2024. The Scandinavian country is a leader in electric vehicle adoption, with over 80% of new car sales being electric in 2022.

Other Automakers Join the Electric Revolution

VW is not alone in transitioning to electric vehicles. A growing number of automakers have set target dates for phasing out combustion engines, including:

  • Audi: 2032
  • Ford: 2035
  • GM: 2035
  • Hyundai: 2035
  • Mercedes-Benz: 2035
  • Opel: 2028
  • Volvo: 2030

As the world moves towards a cleaner and more sustainable future, the transition to electric vehicles is inevitable. VW's bold move to phase out combustion engines by 2026 is a testament to the company's commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility.
