Mother Teresa: A Life of Service

Early Life and Vocation

Mary Teresa Bojaxhiu, better known as Mother Teresa, was born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu on August 26, 1910, in Skopje, Macedonia, which was then part of the Ottoman Empire. At a young age, she felt a strong calling to serve God.

Missionary Work

In 1928, Mother Teresa joined the Sisters of Loreto, a Roman Catholic religious order. She was sent to India in 1929, where she spent most of her life working among the poorest of the poor. In 1946, she received a divine inspiration to leave her convent and serve the destitute of Calcutta.

In 1948, she founded the Missionaries of Charity, a religious order dedicated to serving the poorest and most vulnerable members of society. Mother Teresa and her order became known for their selfless service and compassionate care.

Beliefs and Legacy

Mother Teresa's beliefs were based on her unshakeable faith in God and her belief in the inherent dignity of every human being. She dedicated her life to serving the "poorest of the poor" and advocating for their rights.

Mother Teresa died on September 5, 1997. She was canonized by the Catholic Church in 2016, and her legacy continues to inspire countless people around the world.
